Self-Motivators for Improved Results

Hold yourself responsible for a higher standard than anybody else expects of you. Never excuse yourself. Never pity yourself. Be a hard taskmaster to yourself.

Today's message is an excerpt from the book, Secrets of Successful Insurance Sales.

Amateurs make empty promises; professionals make commitments.

Amateurs criticize conditions; professionals change circumstances.

Amateurs judge themselves by minimum standards; professionals judge themselves by standards of excellence.

Think about each of these guidelines as you review your results each week. Make a habit of doing so at a regular time and in a situation in which you can reflect and think. Remember:

  • You don't always get what you expect unless you inspect with regularity.
  • Competence comes from study and practice: from competence comes reputation; from reputation, wealth and the true riches of life. So let study and practice be your guide.
  • Have you filled the last minute with sixty seconds full of distance run?
  • Make yourself your own toughest competitor.
  • Compete against others, but don't compare yourself to them.
  • Aim high!
  • A man's reach should exceed his grasp, or what's a heaven for?
  • Services rendered is the best rule by which to measure a day's work, or a lifetime's.
